Allow Licensed Immigration Advisers to certify documents and administer oaths

That the House of Representatives amend legislation to authorise Licensed Immigration Advisers with at least 10 or more years of service to certify official documents and administer oaths, equivalent to Justices of the Peace.

Licensed Immigration Advisers (LIAs) are regulated professionals who handle daily the same documents JPs certify. We have heard that JP clinics can have wait times exceeding two hours, and access is increasingly difficult. We consider much of JPs’ workload relates to immigration matters. We think authorising experienced LIAs to certify documents and administer oaths will reduce JP demand, eliminate unnecessary delays for clients, and formally recognise a profession that has earned this trust.
