Privacy Policy

1. What we collect

If you browse anonymously: we collect nothing that identifies you. You can read all content without signing in.

If you sign in with Google: we receive and store:

• Your display name as provided by Google
• Your profile picture URL (if you have one)
• An internal identifier for your account issued by that provider (we never see your password)

If you participate (vote, post an argument, challenge someone to a battle), we store that activity linked to your account: which petitions you supported or opposed, which arguments you rated, your posted arguments and their text, and battle votes. Your display name is shown publicly next to anything you post.

Automatically: our web server keeps standard access logs (IP address, browser type, pages requested, timestamps) for security and troubleshooting. We use one essential session cookie to keep you signed in; it contains no tracking and no third-party advertising or analytics cookies are used.

2. What we do not collect

• We do not ask for or store your email address
• We do not sell or share your personal information with advertisers or data brokers
• We do not run advertising or third-party analytics trackers

3. How your information is used

• To operate the Site: recording votes, displaying arguments and battle results
• To prevent duplicate voting and abuse (one vote per account)
• To keep the service secure and debug problems (server logs)

4. Third parties

• Google sign-in: authentication is handled by Google under its own privacy policy. Google receives the fact that you are signing in to this app.
• NZ Parliament: petition titles, descriptions and official signature counts are fetched from the public Parliament website and shown on this Site. Signing an actual petition happens on parliament.nz under their terms and privacy policy — we never receive that data.
• Hosting: the Site runs on a cloud server; standard provider logging may apply.

5. Storage, retention and security

Data is stored in a database on our server. Votes and posted arguments are kept while the related petition discussion remains active. Server logs are rotated routinely. Traffic is encrypted in transit (HTTPS). No system is perfectly secure, but we apply reasonable measures appropriate to a community discussion site, and we do not hold sensitive personal information.

6. Your rights and choices

You control your participation:

• Sign out at any time from the navigation bar
• Access or delete your data: contact us (below) and we will provide a copy of the data linked to your account, or delete your votes, arguments and account record. We aim to respond within 20 working days, consistent with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.
• Unlink the provider: revoking this app's access in your Google account settings stops future sign-ins; you can also request deletion from us at any time.

7. Children

The Site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will remove it.

8. Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle personal information, we will update this page and revise the date above. Material changes will be announced on the Site home page.
