Terms of Service
Last updated: 29 August 2026
1. Acceptance of terms
By accessing or using PetitionBattle ("the Site"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Site.
2. What the Site is
PetitionBattle is an independent community platform for discussing and debating New Zealand Parliament petitions. We are not affiliated with the New Zealand Parliament.
The Site allows users to:
- Browse open petitions from the NZ Parliament
- Vote support or oppose on petitions (community opinion, not official signatures)
- Post arguments for or against petitions
- Challenge other users to structured 7-day debates
3. Community opinions, not official signatures
Votes on PetitionBattle are community opinions. They do not count as official parliamentary petition signatures and have no legal effect. To officially support a petition, you must sign it at petitions.parliament.nz.
4. Accounts
You may browse the Site without an account. To vote, post arguments, or participate in battles, you must sign in with a supported provider (currently Google). You are responsible for your account activity.
5. User conduct
You agree not to:
- Post spam, harassment, or abusive content
- Attempt to manipulate votes or battles through automated means
- Impersonate another person or entity
- Post content that is illegal, defamatory, or infringes on others' rights
- Interfere with the Site's operation or security
We reserve the right to suspend or remove accounts that violate these terms.
6. Content ownership
You retain ownership of arguments you post. By posting content to PetitionBattle, you grant PetitionBattle a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, display, distribute, and otherwise use that content as reasonably necessary to operate, maintain, improve, and promote the Site and its services.
7. Petition data
Petition titles, descriptions, and signature counts are sourced from the public NZ Parliament petitions website. This data is shown for discussion purposes. We do not control or guarantee its accuracy.
8. Disclaimer
The Site is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We are not responsible for:
- The accuracy of petition information sourced from Parliament
- User-generated content, arguments, or debate outcomes
- Any decisions made based on community vote totals
9. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, PetitionBattle shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Site.
10. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes will be announced on the Site. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
