Appoint the building consent accreditation body via public competitive tender

That the House of Representatives urge the Minister for Building and Construction to instruct the Chief Executive of the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment to appoint the building consent accreditation body via open competitive tender under the Government Electronic Tendering System (GETS).

International Accreditation New Zealand (IANZ) has been the building consent accreditation body under section 248 of the Building Act 2004 for more than 10 years. The Building Act 2004 does not mandate IANZ must fulfil this role; however, it is my understanding that this role has never been subject to open competition via the GETS system or similar. I believe that this role should be competitively tendered.
