Call for Israel to obey court order: let the Red Cross see Palestinian detainees
Petition request
That the House of Representatives urge the Government to call publicly, with partner countries, on Israel to obey its own Supreme Court and let the International Committee of the Red Cross and other impartial humanitarian agencies visit every Palestinian detainee, including in private.
Why this petition
For three years the Red Cross has been barred from every Palestinian detainee—Israel holds over 9,000, more than 3,000 without charge or trial. In June 2026 Israel's own Supreme Court ruled the ban unlawful and ordered visits to resume. They still have not. Red Cross visits are protected under the Geneva Conventions, which New Zealand has ratified. New Zealand has previously joined with Australia, Canada, the UK and Norway on Israel. I believe it can lead again, and the House can ask it to.
